The first two towns, free

The demo is the first two towns of the full game: Openfield, where you learn the basics, and Frostford, where you beat your first Chess Club and win your first Sigil, one of the six badges you need to enter the World Championship. The demo ends at the gate of the third town.

extras

Four extras on the title screen

The Extras tab on the title screen holds a chess course for beginners, a companion book, the soundtrack with the art beside it, and every puzzle in the game to practise on.

  • The white king from the game’s classic set — a cream three-quarter render, the card face the Extras shelf uses for the chess course.

    How to Play Chess

The whole game from nothing: the board, every piece, castling, en passant, promotion and what each piece is worth. Five chapters and eighteen steps on a live board, and a wrong move just slides back.

    in the demo

  • The Field Guide — a green leather book with a gold compass rose on the cover and a ribbon marker, the game’s own Extras card art.

    companion

    The Field Guide

The Complete Casteria Companion, readable in game: twenty-one chapters covering every system, a piece compendium, a board compendium, everyone you can talk to, and a walkthrough of the road and the side stories.

in the demo: a seven-chapter edition

  • A board from the collection, standing in for the Gallery card — the game picks a different one every time the title screen loads.

    76 tracks

    Gallery & Music

The whole soundtrack, with the art of Casteria drifting past while it plays. Stop the slideshow and browse the art yourself; the music keeps going.

    full game only

  • The white knight from the game’s classic set — a cream three-quarter render, the card face the Extras shelf uses for the Puzzle Explorer.

    5,890 puzzles

    Puzzle Explorer

Every mate in the game, sorted by depth and by the name of the pattern, so you can play every example of one shape back to back. At your own pace or against the clock. Practice only; it never touches your save.

in the demo: 50 of the 5,890
